By this point in the Masterclass, you've got the tools. You've got the system. You've got the structure. But now, it's time to hardwire one final safeguard into your decision-making process.
Because even with the best picks, one bad emotional decision can wreck your entire week.
That's why every single play I make must pass through three essential questions.
If the answer to any of them is "no," I don't bet. Simple as that.
Today's lesson is about locking in those questions - so you never place another bet without total clarity, total discipline, and total control.
Question 1: Does This Fit the System?
This is the foundation of everything we do. Before placing any wager, ask: "Does this pick check every box in the Wise Guy System?"
That means:
- Public is overloaded on the other side
- The book stands to lose if the public wins
- There's reverse line movement or liability alignment
- The play is rated appropriately (0.25-10 units)
If it doesn't check all of those boxes? It's not a play.
Even if it "feels" like a winner. Even if it cashed last week. Even if your gut says to go for it.
The system is the edge - not your emotions.
Question 2: Is My Unit Size 100% Aligned With My Bankroll?
This question protects your future - even when the pick is correct. Ask yourself: "Am I risking the correct % of my bankroll for this unit rating?"
Remember:
- 1 unit = 1% of bankroll
- 10-unit max = 10% of bankroll
- Unit sizes do not change midweek
- Scaling only happens on Mondays, after a 20-25% bankroll increase
That means:
- No doubling down
- No "feeling good" and adding extra units
- No scaling up just because you're on a hot streak
Bet size discipline is just as important as pick discipline. Stick to the structure. Let compound interest do the work.
Question 3: Would I Make This Bet If I Couldn't Watch the Game?
This question is a mindset check. Ask: "If I couldn't see the score, get live updates, or watch it on TV - would I still make this bet?"
If the answer is no, you're betting for entertainment - not profit. That's not the Wise Guy way.
Watching the game should never be the reason for the wager. We don't bet for adrenaline. We bet for edge. We bet for long-term profit.
Once the play is in, the work is done. If you can't detach from the result? You're not betting like a pro - yet.
The 3-Question Checklist Recap
- 1. Does it fit the system? - Keeps you from guessing, chasing, or freelancing.
- 2. Is your unit size 100% aligned with bankroll? - Prevents risk exposure and bankroll sabotage.
- 3. Would you make this bet if you couldn't watch? - Checks your emotion and ensures you're process-driven.
Why This Filter Works
These three questions force you to:
- Slow down
- Think logically
- Stay structured
- Remove ego
- And protect your bankroll from you
Because most people don't lose JUST because of the picks. They lose because of poor execution.
These three questions fix that.
Final Word: No Bet Without the Filter
If you can answer YES to all three questions:
- The play fits the system
- Your stake is correct
- You're betting with discipline, not emotion
Then you're green-lit. Bet it with confidence. You're playing like a pro.
But if even one answer is NO? You pass. No exceptions.
You don't push. You don't guess. You don't hope. You let the next opportunity come - and you execute the right way when it does.
That's what separates a square from a Wise Guy. That's what separates volatility from long-term wealth.
So starting today? No bet gets placed without all three questions getting a YES. That's how you win for life.
